Little Red Riding Hood | Psychology analysis Even though there are abundant approaches engaging in understanding literature, the psychoanalytic interpretation attempts to make use of the symbolic secrecy of a work. In contrast to the orderly approach, which focuses exclusively on the wording and the captivating aspect of the psychoanalytic interpretation is that it searches for a purpose further than what is seen in the text. By distrusting the existence of intrinsic and hidden motives, it allows for a wide range of abstract and creative possibilities. Freuds theories were enormously influential, but subject to considerable criticism both now and during his own life (Cherry). His psychoanalytical theories are used today for a better understanding in analyzing literature. When the psychoanalytical theory of personality is being applied in Charles Perraults, Little Red Riding Hood, it suggests evidence toward sexual motivations and it integrates with Sigmund Freuds psychic apparatus which contain the three key zones of the mental processes which are the id, ego and superego. Sigmund Freud pioneered the establishment of the psychoanalytical idea behind his principle theory that all human behavior is primarily motivated by sexuality. Throughout Charles Perraults, Little Red Riding Hood, there were various amounts of sexual associations throughout the story. Even the moral of the story suggests being cautious against smooth-tongued and dangerous beasts which like to dispossess young ladies of their innocence. Likewise, the wolf does not just consume the grandmother, but instead, he immediately fell upon the good women and ate her up in a moment (Perrault). Furthermore, before eating Little Red Riding Hood, he invites her to come in the bed with him. At which point, she took off her clothes and got into bed. She was greatly amazed to see how her grandmother looked in her nightclothes (Perrault). After she thoroughly examines and comments on the body parts of the wolf, he then threw himself upon Little Red Riding Hood (Perrault) to consume her as well. In res ponse to such direct and obvious seduction, Little Red Riding Hood showed no motive to escape or fighting back. Either she is an ignoramus or she wanted to be misled. Furthermore, Perrault also makes use of another example: Put the cakes and the little pot of butter on the bin and climb into bed with me (Perrault). Little Red Riding Hood does not disagree and felt obligated to follow the wolfs wishes, which shows her sexuality and desire for the wolf. With these details Little Red Riding Hood is changed from an unsuspecting, attractive young girl, who was persuaded to disobey her mothers warnings and enjoys herself in what she believes to be innocent. These clear references in the text are proof of evidence that support Freuds theories on the psychoanalytical approach. In the beginning of Little Red Riding Hood, Little Red Riding Hood sets off on an adventure into the woods to go deliver goodies to her grandmother where then, she met with a wolf, who had a very great mind to eat her up (Perrault) and continues to have a sociable conversation with the wolf. This was Little Red Riding Hoods first mistake. Young and unaware about the ways of the world, she thought it was normal to talk to a dangerous wolf. Since the little girl is young and vulnerable, since Little Red Riding Hood is friendly and ignorant she doesnt think that there is anything wrong with talking to a stranger that comes across in the woods. The wolf asks Little Red where her grandmother lives, she responded, A good quarter of a league farther on in the wood; her house stands under the three large oak-trees, the nut-trees are just below; you surely must know it (Grimm). She wasnt thinking thoroughly of what could come of her informing the wolf of where her grandmother lives. Due to Li ttle Red Riding Hoods ignorance of what might happen due to her irresponsible choice of speaking with a dangerous and senseless wolf. When accurately applying the psychoanalytical approach, it is appropriate to prove the interactions of the human mind. The concept of the unconscious mind inspire human behavior is essential to the examination of Perraults, Little Red Riding Hood. Cherry expresses the thought that, Sigmund Freud believed that there were three psychic zones of the mental processes: id, ego and superego (The Id, Ego and Superego). In Little Red Riding Hood, Little Red Riding Hoods elders, grandmother and mother represent the superego in the story. They both raise Little Red Riding Hood by helping to protect and control her motives and desires. On the other hand, the wolf symbolizes the id. Lacking both the logic and rule of action, he only functions only to reach full satisfaction. The wolf is guilty of giving into his own uncontrolled desires. When the wolf first catches sight of the young girl he, wanted to eat her up, but he dared not, because of some woodcutters working nearby in the forest (Perrau lt). The wolf refrained himself from giving into his own urges because he was afraid of being mauled by the woodcutters nearby. Unfortunately, the wolf did not stay hungry for long. Giving into his voluptuous desires, he beat the girl to her grandmothers house and ate her. Once he ate the grandmother he couldnt ignore his desires anymore. The wolf doesnt think with his mind, but instead with his stomach. Cherry explains that, The id is driven by the pleasure principle, which strives for immediate gratification of all desires, wants, and needs. If these needs are not satisfied immediately, the result is a state anxiety or tension (The Id, Ego and Superego). The wolf relied on his aggression and desires to obtain what he wanted as his end result. Little Red Riding Hood on the other hand served as the middle man between self-control and utter confusion. Little Red Riding Hood symbolizes the ego and attempts to balance both the id and superego. At the beginning of the story Little Red Riding Hood who was described as being the, prettiest creature who was ever seen (Perrault). With her mother so adoring of her, she later enters into the woods where she confronts the id. At this point, she disobeys her mothers instructions, and evolves to being a poor child. The moral of the story, is that these young women maybe well broug ht up but they still turn unwise and ignorant when they do speak to strangers. Being considered as the prettiest creature, it was Little Red Riding Hoods own fault for leaning too far into the senseless id. Furthermore, Sigmund Freud suggests that this struggle of the psychic apparatus of the three mental processes of the psychoanalytical theory of personality can only conclude to the death of Little Red Riding Hood, which inevitably also turned out to be the fate of her grandmother. At the end of the story, the foolishness of the main characters comes to an all time high. Little Red Riding Hood is extremely happy when she gets to see her sick grandmother and try and cheer her up. Little Red Riding Hood being ignorant and unaware she does not realize that her grandmother is actually the wolf who she met earlier. If she was more observant and not so wrapped up in her own little world, she could have realized that there was something truly wrong with the way her grandmother looked. She currently had no common sense in this situation. The wolf, who has one thing on his mind, tricks her in telling him where her grandmother lives. The wolf is certainly no better than the little girl in this situation. The wolf could care less about anything else, except his only motivation which is to get Little Red Riding Hood into bed with him. Put the cake and the butter down on the bread-bin and come and lie down with me (Perrault). The wolfs only goal is to satisfy his uncontroll able desires. The wolf does not know right from wrong, he just reacts to his animalistic desires. The wolf is id driven creature whose only goal in life is to please himself by any means necessary. Both Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf are both guilty of giving into their id. The moral of the story cautions the reader that the wolf in the story is going to try and take advantage of any ignorant or vulnerable creatures. These young girls are able to act on their desires and act as bad girls. Everyone is capable of giving into their own temptations and what is not necessarily the right thing to do. Despite the fact that the psychoanalytic approach is used for interpretation of literature, it proves to be entirely intriguing. In stories such as this, the sexual motives are clearly seen, and thus confirming the complexity behind the approach. Maybe it is a bit untraditional. However, this examination remains both thought disturbing and brilliantly intriguing.

Causes and Effects of a Youthful population Gambia is a small, narrow, horizontal country in western Africa. It is surrounded by Senegal and a short strip of Atlantic coastline at its western end. When a country has a high number of children, it is said to have a youthful population. There are many Causes and Effects for this: Social There are many social causes and effects. * 95% of Gambia’s population is Muslim. This means they can marry more than one wife. Each woman has a TFR (total fertility rate) of about 7 children. A man marrying 3 or 4 wives can mean 21-28 children.It could be more children as, in a country with a high infant mortality rate, women tend to have more children for a better chance of survival. * Education isn’t common meaning contraceptives and family planning is harder to reach. Also it is discouraged, traditionally. This would mean people won’t use contraception and families will grow larger. Also it is a taboo subject so people wonâ€℠¢t question the fact that their families are so big. * Gambia is a poor country; there is not enough money to make government programmes that educate and inform women about family planning etc. eaning, again, more children. * Many children means families are likely to have financial problems; there will not be enough money to feed and support an ever-growing family. This will make malnutrition common; homes will be extremely over-crowded and poor sanitation. * With large proportions of children in the country, there will not be enough education. There is a shortage of toilet facilities and educational material. Often schools have to adopt a 2 shift system; some children educated in the morning and some later in the day.Environmental * Due to large families and the need to use more resources, desertification of the forests can become a problem. People will use the wood for fires in their homes, for making houses and for selling. The land left will end up as a desert therefore making the temperature rise. 2/3 of forests are now gone. Economic * Due to the 2 shift system and lack of money, teachers are poorly paid and can work up to 12 hours a day. * Lack of work means 1 in 3 14 year olds have to work to help to support their family. Because of over-crowding in the cities, they are being expanded but there isn’t enough money to do a good job of it. Also there is a lack of money for the infrastructure. * There is no money to build new schools so overpopulation is very common; 3000 pupils are divided into 26 classrooms. 6 toilets for 3000 pupils, typically with queues of 50 plus students. So to summarize, due to the high birth rate and falling infant mortality rate and improvements in the level of healthcare available, the population has been increasing rapidly.Gambia’s population doubles every 28 years and it is expected to be 3. 9 million in 2050. About 63. 55% of the population is under 25; elderly people of 65 years and above account for only 2. 8 % of the population. This will create a high dependency ratio. In the future it will be harder to find employment and accommodation with even more of a strain on food resources, infrastructure and the health service, which is already struggling. However, in the future, there will be a large and cheap workforce.

Parents Teen Relationship

Parent-Teen Relationships Analysis Our survey was about parent teen’s relationship and how close they are with each other. We survey 100 students in our school which fifty of them were male and other fifty were female. We had 9 questions which were about who they living with and how open they are with their parents. My three survey questioners are ‘are they are closer to their mother or Father’, ‘who they are more comfortable to talk’, and ‘being more open with parents would have positive or negative effects on their relationship. ’ Question #4 The result shows that teenagers are closer to their mothers rather than their fathers. The graph shows that 77 percents of students are closer to their mother which 48 percent of them are Female and 29 percents of them are Male. Most of the teenagers are close to their mother rather than their Father because she is the one who is there and will listen to you and knows your needs, but father is at work most of the time. Mother spend a great deal of time with their children get to know them better and become more sensitive to their need. Fathers and mother interact differently with their children. Father tends to be more physically engaged and less emotional with their children than mothers are. Girls are closer to their mother because they are from same gander and wouldn’t feel comfortable to talk about their physical issues with their father. In this survey 21 percent were closer to their father because they think that they understand each other better and fell comfortable to talk about their issues. Question #5 The results show that teenagers are most comfortable talking to their mothers and friends than their fathers. The graph shows that 47 percent of students are most comfortable talking to their mother which 29 percent of them are Female and 18 percent of them are Male. However, 15 percent of them are most comfortable talking to their father which 11 percent of them are male and 4 percent of them are Female. Other 38 percent are most comfortable talking to their friends which 21 percent of them are Male and 17 percent of them are Female. Communication with their children seems to be the bridge to a good and healthy relationship between moms and their children. The most important part of communication for moms is listening. Most of the students are comfortable talk to their mother because she is the one who is there when they have problem and always listen to them. She tries to understand them and give them good advices not punish them for what they had done. Also, mother will support their children emotionally and girls are more comfortable talking to their mother about their problems and emotional stuff. Some of the boys are comfortable to talk with their father because they think that he will understand them better and knows their need as a man. Furthermore, most of the students are more comfortable talking to their friends because they are at same age and might have or had same issues and problems as they have. Other reason is that they think that their parents wouldn’t understand them and they might not have close relationship or scared of talking about something they did wrong. The most important part of communication for moms is listening. Many times moms are in too big of a hurry to speak and less interested in listening. The way to learn is to listen. Children learn from moms as well as moms learn from children. It is not al ways easy for a mom to listen in a busied life nevertheless listening is sometimes the most important. Take the time to stop and listen to what your child has to say it will be a precious moment that can be turned into a precious memory. Moms need to be consistent with children. Children learn to trust this way. A mom says something it is important to follow through with that statement. Whether it be a boundary for a child (where they can go, curfews) or a special time and day set aside for them. Consistency is an everyday thing that will go on through the life of the child. They trust boundaries that are set for them and look forward to the time they get with mom. As children grow and have ideas of their own, it is important for moms to keep communicating and listening to their children. There are different needs in children as they grow and change and it is important for moms to recognize their changes and needs with an open mind and a lot of understanding. Sometimes tough love is a hard thing to for moms but a much-needed thing in children's lives. And my mum because she's my emotional support. She's a female like me, so we talk about anything. She's there to cry to.. It's very effective. Children feel closer to parents who treat them like friends and listen to them more than those who rule by fear. When you treat your child like a friend, he/she will confide everything in you and this way can be saved from doing a lot of stuff that could be harmful for them or get them into trouble. Being a friend to your kid makes them feel closer to you, and protect them from outside influences that may be attractive but may get them into trouble.

Mail Delivery Could be Even Slower Than USPS Admits

Due to its unreliable tracking system, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) may be delivering your mail even more slowly than it has claimed, according to the Government Accountability Office (GAO). Background After increasing its own long-time 2-day delivery standard for First-Class mail to 3-days in January, 2015, the cash-starved USPS proceeded to close or consolidate 82 mail processing plants nationwide over the objections of all 50 U.S. Senators. [ See: Why for Mail Delivery ‘Slow’ is the New ‘Normal’ ] The effects of those actions revealed themselves in August 2015, when a federal inspector general notified the USPS that the number of First-Class letters being delivered at least a day late had increased by 48% in the first 6 months of 2015 alone. Mail May be Even Slower, GAO Finds But lowered standards or not, the GAO’s investigators reported that the Postal Service’s system for tracking and reporting delivery time is too incomplete and unreliable to determine how late the mail really is being delivered. According to GAO auditors, the reports created by the USPS’s mail delivery tracking system â€Å"do not include sufficient analysis to hold USPS accountable for meeting its statutory mission to provide service in all areas of the nation.† In fact, the GAO found that the USPS’ system tracks the delivery times of only 55% of First-Class mail, Standard-Class mail, periodicals, and packages. Delivery times of mail without tracking barcodes are not reported. â€Å"Incomplete measurement poses the risk that measures of on-time performance are not representative, since performance may differ for mail included in the measurement, from mail that is not,† stated the GAO. â€Å"Complete performance information enables effective management, oversight, and accountability.† In other words, the USPS doesn’t know exactly how slow its mail delivery service has become. Spreading the Blame The GAO also placed some blame on the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC), the presidentially appointed body responsible for overseeing Postal Service operations. Specifically the GAO criticized the PRC for failing to determine why the USPS’s delivery time tracking data are not complete and dependable. â€Å"While PRCs annual reports have provided data on the amount of mail included in measurement, they have not fully assessed why this measurement was incomplete or whether USPS actions will make it so,† GAO investigators wrote. While the PRC has the power to direct the USPS to improve its delivery time tracking system, it has so far failed to do so, noted the GAO. Meanwhile, in Rural America The GAO also pointed out that the USPS is not required to – and so does not – track or report delivery time data for mail sent to rural addresses. While several members of Congress have pressured the USPS to study and report on its rural delivery performance, postal officials have stated that doing so would be too costly. However, as the GAO pointed out, the USPS has never provided Congress with cost estimates to prove it. â€Å"Such cost information would be useful for Congress to assess whether developing this information would be appropriate,† wrote the GAO. In 2011, the PRC criticized the USPS for failing to adequately consider the impact of its still on-hold plan to end Saturday mail delivery on rural America. â€Å"As my colleagues and I have heard †¦ [mail] service across the country, particularly in rural communities, is suffering,† said U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Delaware) chairman of the Senate committee that oversees the USPS in a statement on the GAO report. â€Å"To fix these service problems, we need to figure out their root causes,† Carper continued. â€Å"Unfortunately, the [GAO] found the delivery performance results that the Postal Service and Postal Regulatory Commission provide do not give Congress or postal customers an accurate assessment of service.† What the GAO Recommended The GAO suggested that Congress â€Å"direct† the USPS to provide reliable estimates of its costs to report on mail delivery performance in rural areas. The GAO also called on the USPS and PRC to improve the â€Å"completeness, analysis, and transparency† of its mail delivery performance reports. While the USPS generally agreed with the GAO’s recommendations, it also noted that it â€Å"strongly disagrees with the conclusion that our current service performance measurement is not accurate.† So, like your mail, don’t expect the results to be delivered anytime soon.
